The blaze broke out over the weekend at a property on Pete’s Hill Road in Princess Anne, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

When the property owner arrived at the farm, one of the chicken houses had already collapsed in flames.

Investigators say he tried to prevent the fire from spreading to another chicken house but was overtaken by the fast-moving flames, which also engulfed his Toyota Highlander.

Firefighters from the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding departments responded, with 30 firefighters working for 45 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Investigators said the owner had received an alert at noon on Friday, but was not at the property at the time.

When he returned about an hour later, the fire had already become grown out of control.

The fire caused an estimated 150,000 dollars in structural damage and 50,000 dollars in losses to its contents. Officials said no fire alarms or sprinklers were in place.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
